Thought and Ramblings

Brought to you but the Letter P

Yes, it has been awhile, ok more that awhile since I have sat down and put the fingers to work adding to this blog, but I think I have a valid excuse. Within a few weeks my dream of opening a brick and mortar training and treatment facility will come true. The Lab, as I like to call it, will open its doors offering conservative sports medicine services, myofascial treatment, TRX and functional strength training, Smart Trainer cycling programing along with traditional cardiovascular equipment and recovery services including Normatec Boots. We will also offer a whole host of complimentary services including nutritional counseling, testing, both sport specific and lab test, along with some new cutting edge stuff that I am not yet allow to talk about.

With that said, it brings me to the purpose of this little rant. As I Procrastinated about sitting down in front of the computer and adding to my blog a light bulb went off, oh around 3am, and I noticed there are a lot of P's in the world of multisport. The first being Procrastination, be it sending your sessions to your coach or just getting out there to complete a session. Then there is Perspective, the importance of multisport in our lives both for good and not so good. How about Patience, as in why is it taking me so long to get faster in the pool or not being patient and letting the the race come to you. We can't forget about Pacing, an art which is learned over time and with Patience. How about Plan, without it we are only exercising rather than training. In Planning we need to look at if from not only the day to day but also on a year to year basis. We can't forget Power, that ever important element that drives us forward and with each incremental improvement we see the seconds and minutes melt aways. From the fourth discipline, nutrition, there is Protein, that important component of our diet to build muscle  and to aid in control of hormonal response. An finally Pleasure, as in the joy of finishing a good session, finishing a race or setting a new PR.

I am sure there are more, but I don't know if there is another letter in the alphabet which plays such a vital role in training, participating and recovery from the rigors of multisport. Over the next few weeks we will delve deeper into each of these P words, and how they relate to our Participation in the sport we love, TRIATHLON. I will do my best to be much better at adding to this blog and if you have any questions or topics you would like to have me give my two cents worth simply fire me off an email.
